12 BEST Things to Do in Soufrière, St. Lucia

Soufrière, located on the southwestern coast of St. Lucia, is an island hot spot brimming with natural beauty and charm!

You’ll find iconic landmarks like the Pitons, weird mud pots to dip in, and black sand beaches to stroll—Soufrière is truly an epic spot to visit!

Here’s a guide to the best things to do in and around Soufrière to help you plan your visit.

1. Wander the Town of Soufrière

Start your visit by exploring the town itself. It’s small and walkable.

Stroll along cobblestone streets lined with colorful buildings, stop by the market to browse fresh produce and local crafts, and soak in the vibe.

3. Chill on Hummingbird (Soufrière) Beach

Located right in town, Hummingbird or Soufrière Beach is a bustling beach where locals and visitors mingle.

While it can get busy, especially on holidays, it’s a great place to take a quick dip, watch the fishing boats, or simply relax with the lively backdrop of the town.

There’s not TOO much to do on this beach if I’m being honest. Just a few little beach shacks, and in the north of the beach, there’s a kayak rental. You come here for the people watching and the views!

4. Check Out Toraille Waterfall

If you want to see a waterfall so you can take a refreshing dip, this is the one! There’s nothing better on a hot day than jumping in a cool pool.

5. Get Muddy at Sulphur Springs

A visit to Soufrière isn’t complete without experiencing the Sulphur Springs. This geothermal site, known as the “world’s only drive-in volcano,” has bubbling sulfur pools and natural mud baths.

Apply gray and black volcanic mud to your skin, let it dry, and rinse off in the warm mineral-rich pools. My skin felt amazing after spending some time in the mud baths!

Afterward, take a short walk to see the steaming sulfur vents and learn about the area’s volcanic activity.

6. Hike The Tet Paul Nature Trail

The Tet Paul Nature Hike is an easy trail that offers some of the best views in St. Lucia. Required guided tours lead you along the path, pointing out local flora like mango trees and soursop.

Along the way, you’ll stop at multiple viewpoints, including one with a panoramic view of the Pitons. Don’t miss the small souvenir shop and refreshing treats like wax apples at the end of the trail!

There’s also the hike to Petit Piton and Gros Piton, but those hikes are quite a bit more challenging.

Practical Tips for Visiting Soufrière

Soufriere beach from above
  • Getting Around: Renting a car is the easiest way to explore Soufrière and nearby attractions, though taxis and guided tours are also available. In fact, almost everything on this list will require you to drive to it or take a tour of it.
  • Move it Along: The town roads are narrow, so don’t spend too much time driving through them. You might have some people try to wave you down to park in their areas for cash or something else. Just keep moving until you get where you need to go. Then walk!
  • What to Bring: Pack sunscreen, comfortable shoes, a reusable water bottle, and swimwear because you’re going to want to get in the water!
  • Dining Options: You’ll probably end up eating at your resort. We found the food options to be pretty limited in Soufrière. Don’t plan on dining out in town! Things also close up pretty early.
