It’s ideal for those who love to mingle with fellow travelers and the LGBTQ+ community (this is YOUR spot), and it’s also appealing to couples looking to have fun.

I will say this will be the most touristy area of Puerto Vallarta, and you can expect prices to reflect that, too. With that said, it’s a popular spot, and if it sounds like your vibe, then you won’t be disappointed staying here!

Pros 🤩

  • Very walkable and safe.
  • Wide range of dining and nightlife options.
  • Close to Los Muertos Beach, Puerto Vallarta’s most famous beach, and where you’ll catch the boat to nearby spots and tours.

  • Not really walkable, you’ll need taxis.
  • Decent beaches but the not best in the area.

Where to Stay in Marina Vallarta

  • $: Casa las Flores – This area is spendy overall, but for a budget spot, you can feel at home here. You won’t be on a beach but you’ll have a great pool just outside your room.
  • $$: The Westin Resort & Spa – This is a perfect spot for families to get away from it all. You’ll get ocean front views and tons of amenities on site so you don’ need to leave if you don’t want to!
  • $$$: Velas Vallarta – This is one of the places I’ve stayed in Puerto Vallarta, and wow! This resort is truly incredible, with stunning views from literally every single room, great dining options, two massive pools, and a sandy beach right in front of you. It’s great for families or couples.

The heart and soul of Puerto Vallarta can truly be felt in Centro and the 5 de Diciembre neighborhood. This area is bustling with the energy of local life, markets, and street food stalls that offer a taste of authentic Mexico.

The streets are lined with historic buildings and landmarks, including the iconic Church of Our Lady of Guadalupe.

It’s a cultural hotspot where art galleries, boutiques, and cafes abound, inviting visitors to explore and find themselves in the vibrant local scene.

If you’re asking for MY personal favorite area to stay in Puerto Vallarta, then this is it. I loved the mix of foreigners and locals intermingling and living life together. This is where I base and stay when I’m in Puerto Vallarta!

Pros 🤩

  • Rich in culture and history, with plenty of landmarks and museums.
  • Vibrant nightlife and a wide variety of Western and local dining options.
  • More affordable shopping and dining compared to more tourist-centric areas.

5. Conchas Chinas

Often referred to as the “Beverly Hills of Puerto Vallarta,” Conchas Chinas is an exclusive neighborhood known for its luxurious villas, secluded beaches, and stunning natural beauty.

In the lush hills south of the city, this area offers breathtaking views of the ocean and a quieter, more refined atmosphere.

An amazing view over Conchas Chinas!

The beaches here are smaller and more private, making it an ideal location for romantic getaways or anyone seeking a serene escape from the bustling city.

Its close proximity to the lively Zona Romantica also means you’re never too far from excellent dining and entertainment options but you will be the most removed from Puerto Vallarta here… But maybe that’s exactly what you’re looking for?!

Pros 🤩

  • Secluded and peaceful, with some of the most beautiful beaches in the area.
  • Luxurious accommodations offering privacy and exclusivity.
  • Close to Zona Romantica for when you crave more activity.

Cons 😔

  • The remote location means a bit more travel to reach central activities and attractions.
  • There are very limited options for dining, bars, and shopping.
  • Very hilly, so you’ll be Ubering to get anywhere.

Where to Stay in Conchas Chinas

  • $: Mondavi – While you won’t be able to dip your toes in the ocean right off your bedroom, you’ll instead get stunning vistas of the beach from your very own hilltop apartment! A well-worth it pay-off.
  • $$: Hotel Luxury Patio Azul – This stunning 5-star property is perched high above on a hilltop with great views with a cool rooftop pool and lounge area. Relish in the easy-going vibes here and spot some whales from your patio!
  • $$$: Hyatt Ziva – Four pools, exclusive beach access, an adults-only pool, spa services, six bars, sports courts, friendly staff, and all-inclusive amenities… it’s really a no-brainer; this is one of the best places to stay in Puerto Vallarta in the Cochina Chinas area.
