ChocoMuseo Granada: Is the Chocolate-Making Class Worth It?
Granada has plenty of churches, colorful streets, and bigger adventures nearby, but if you want something easy and a little different, making your own chocolate at ChocoMuseo is a fun way to spend an hour or two.
We squeezed a chocolate-making workshop into one of our days in Granada, and it ended up being such a cute little activity.
Plus, you leave with chocolate. So there’s that.

What Is ChocoMuseo Granada?
ChocoMuseo is a small chocolate museum and workshop right in Granada where you can learn about cacao and how it goes from bean to chocolate bar.
You can stop by and look around the museum for free, or sign up for one of their hands-on chocolate workshops.

There are different workshop options, but this is the one I did!

Our Chocolate Making Class at ChocoMuseo
We had Jesús as our guide, and he was great. Super animated, friendly, and somehow our chocolate-making class also turned into a mini Spanish lesson since we ended up doing parts of it in both Spanish and English.
We started by learning a little about cacao, the beans, and how chocolate is made.

Then we got to actually do something.
We peeled and toasted cacao beans and used them to make a cacao drink with milk. After drinking our creation, we moved on to the important part: making our own chocolate bars!

We worked with melted chocolate, learned how to temper it, poured it into molds, and picked our toppings.
I chose almonds.

Garrett chose coconut.
Extremely important decisions.
Once we finished, the bars needed some time to set, so we left them there and came back less than an hour later to pick them up.
The whole experience was hands-on without being some massive commitment. You learn a little, make something, eat chocolate, and then continue exploring Granada.

Ideal!

How Long Does the ChocoMuseo Workshop Take?
The exact time depends on which workshop you choose, but this is an easy activity to fit into a day of sightseeing.
You definitely don’t need to dedicate your entire day to it.
We were able to do the workshop, leave our chocolate to set, and continue wandering around Granada before coming back to grab our bars.

That was one of the things I liked most about it. It feels like an actual activity rather than just another shop or museum to quickly walk through, but it also doesn’t take over your itinerary.

Is the ChocoMuseo Granada Chocolate Class Worth It?
Yep!
I wouldn’t plan an entire trip to Granada around making a chocolate bar, obviously, but it’s a really fun extra activity while you’re already here.
It’s interactive, you learn a little about Nicaraguan cacao, and it’s an easy break from walking around Granada in the heat.
And again, you leave with chocolate that you made yourself.
There are worse ways to spend an afternoon.
