Orange Travel eSIM Review: Is It Worth It?

I’ve used a lot of eSIMs over the years, and at this point, it takes more than a slick app and a cheap data package to impress me.

I want an eSIM that actually works when I land, gives me enough data to use my phone normally, and, maybe most importantly, has decent support when something inevitably goes weird.

So when Orange Travel reached out, I was curious. Orange isn’t some tiny eSIM startup that appeared yesterday; it’s part of the massive Orange telecom group, and I happened to be traveling through Uzbekistan at the time, which gave me a pretty interesting place to test it!

I used an Orange Travel eSIM while traveling through Uzbekistan on my iPhone 15 Pro Max, using it for regular browsing, maps, downloading things, social media, and even doomscrolling TikTok through a VPN.

Here’s what happened and my honest Orange Travel eSIM review.

What Is Orange Travel?

Orange Travel is the international travel eSIM service from Orange, one of the largest telecom companies in Europe.

That immediately makes it a little different from many of the travel eSIM companies floating around online. Rather than being built purely as an eSIM marketplace, Orange already operates as a major telecom company and works with hundreds of partner networks around the world.

Orange Travel currently offers eSIMs covering more than 200 destinations and works with 700+ network partners globally.

And while Orange is obviously a very recognizable European brand, Orange Travel isn’t just for trips to Europe. You can buy country-specific and regional eSIMs for destinations around the world, including places like Uzbekistan, where I tested mine.

How to Install and Use an Orange Travel eSIM

The basic process is the same as most travel eSIMs: choose your destination, select a plan, install the eSIM on a compatible phone, and activate it for your trip.

• I bought mine before downloading the Orange Travel app and received the installation QR code by email. I ended up opening the QR code on my laptop and scanning it with my phone, which worked fine.
• You can also use the Orange Travel app to manage your eSIM and top up your plan once you’re set up.
• One important reminder with any travel eSIM: make sure you’ve selected the travel eSIM as your cellular data line and turned data roaming on for that line. You can still keep your regular SIM active for calls and texts if your setup allows it—this is exactly what I do with my US number.

My Experience Using Orange Travel in Uzbekistan

I tested Orange Travel while traveling through Uzbekistan in Central Asia, using a 20GB plan on my iPhone 15 Pro Max.

This was actually a pretty good test location because connectivity with international eSIMs can occasionally be a little finicky in this part of the world.

I used several eSIMs during my wider Central Asia trip and had connectivity issues with more than one provider, so Orange certainly wasn’t alone there.

Local guides I spoke with in the region also told me they regularly see travelers have trouble getting international eSIMs to register properly when they first arrive.

So what happened, and what did I do with my eSIMs?!

How It Performed

Once the eSIM was connected, it basically did what I needed it to do, which is exactly what I want from an eSIM.

I deliberately turned off hotel Wi-Fi while testing it and used Orange for normal browsing, downloading things, maps, messaging, and social media while I was out and about.

I was even able to use TikTok through a VPN. TikTok itself is restricted in Uzbekistan, so I needed the VPN for that, not because of Orange, and even with that extra layer involved, I was still able to scroll and use the app normally enough.

This ended up being one of the strongest parts of my Orange Travel test.

When my eSIM initially wasn’t connecting properly, I emailed support and received a response within about six minutes. Their first troubleshooting suggestion fixed the problem.

That matters more than it might sound!

When you’re standing in another country without working data, waiting half a day—or longer—for customer support is incredibly frustrating (ask me how I know!).

I tested several eSIMs during my Central Asia trip, and Orange was noticeably more responsive than some of the others when I needed help.

Who Is Orange Travel Best For?

I think Orange Travel makes the most sense for travelers who want the convenience of an eSIM but also like the reassurance of using a service backed by a major telecom company.

It’s particularly interesting for travel around Europe, where Orange has a strong presence, and some plans include traditional calls and SMS in addition to mobile data.

But I definitely wouldn’t pigeonhole it as a Europe-only eSIM. I tested it in Uzbekistan, far outside Orange’s European home turf, and after one quick network adjustment, it worked perfectly well for my everyday travel needs.

I’d also put Orange higher on the list for anyone who values responsive support.

Hopefully, you won’t need it, but if you do, getting a useful response within minutes instead of waiting around for half a day can make a huge difference (Another eSIM carrier had me waiting over 24 hours for a fix!).

Orange Travel eSIM Review: Is It Worth It?

Yes, based on my experience using Orange Travel in Uzbekistan, I’d use it again.

It wasn’t completely flawless; I had to manually select a local network before my data started working, but that was an easy fix, and Orange’s support responded almost immediately when I needed help.

After that, the eSIM worked reliably for everything I needed while traveling. I used it for browsing, messaging, maps, downloads, and social media, including while running a VPN.

What stood out most to me was the combination of broad international coverage, the backing of a major telecom company, and genuinely responsive support.

If you’re looking for an eSIM for an upcoming international trip, Orange Travel is one I’d feel comfortable recommending and using again myself!
