3 Days in Ölüdeniz, Turkey’s Turquoise Coast Gem

Ölüdeniz is a part of the Turkish Turquoise Coast with bright blue water, a dreamy lagoon, and mountains dropping straight into the sea.

It’s small, easy to get around, and built for lazy beach days and boat trips. Life slowed down for us here, and it was honestly one of the most unique beach towns we’ve been to (and I’m a pro-beach bum!).

This Ölüdeniz itinerary walks through exactly how to spend 3 days here, just like we did. You’ll get beach time, a full boat day, the Blue Lagoon, and then a quick pop over to nearby Fethiye, too.

Travel insurance is a must, and it doesn’t have to cost much—Here’s what I use.

Ölüdeniz Day 1: Explore The Beach Town

Most people will arrive in Fethiye first, then continue to Ölüdeniz — that’s exactly what we did. (More on how to get to Ölüdeniz below.)

Oludeniz beach from above.

Drop your bags and get straight to the beach. The main Ölüdeniz beach is perfect for a slow walk, people-watching, and watching the paragliders swoop in from Babadağ.

This is the “ohhh OK, this is why everyone talks about this place” moment. The paragliders are constant, and they fly right over your head — it’s such a wild sight. How much cooler does it get?!

Stick around for sunset and head to Buzz Beach Bar for dinner and drinks. It’s close to the water and you can keep watching the last few parachutes float down while you eat.

Oludeniz Safran Turkish delights.

On the way back, pop into Safran Turkish Delights & Baklava in town — super cute, tons of options, great to bring back to the hotel. We definitely got a box of treats to take back (they did not last long).

Walk the little streets and shops, especially around Çarşı Cd — good for souvenirs and snacks.

Ölüdeniz Day 2: Butterfly Valley Beach

Ölüdeniz is one of the best bases for a boat day on this stretch of coast, so make this your big day out on the water.

Oludeniz Baot stop rocky coast and Nina standing rocks looking at blue water.

Head down to the harbor in the morning and grab a spot on a full-day boat tour.

You’ll spend the day jumping in and out of the water at places like Soğuk Su, around Gemiler / St. Nicholas Island, Aquarium Bay, maybe a cave stop, and of course Butterfly Valley beach, which is the prettiest stop of the day.

The whole route is just stupidly gorgeous — glassy blue water, piney hillsides, and coves that look way more remote than they actually are.

Butterfly Valley itself sits between these steep cliffs and opens to a pale, pebbly beach, so it feels way more dramatic than the usual swim stop.

Ölüdeniz Day 3: Blue Lagoon Fethiye

You can’t come to Ölüdeniz and skip the Blue Lagoon. Or maybe you can…?

There’s an entry fee (we paid 100 TL walking in), and once you’re inside, you’ll see why you need to plan to rent sunbeds.

There isn’t much “free” space to just throw a towel down, and it’s a pebble beach anyway. Most of the shoreline is lined with loungers, umbrellas, little cafés, and water sports.

Good news: it’s super calm and shallow, so it’s great for just floating around and taking photos. There are lockers and even loungers with little lockboxes, so you don’t have to stress about your stuff.

But personally, I like just hanging out on the beach. If you want the extra frills and don’t mind paying, then this is a great spot!

If you’re not around, you can day trip here!
Day trip from: Marmaris | Antalya

However, if you walk furthest down to the left of Ölüdeniz beach toward the quieter end (opposite end of the lagoon and beach) and grab coffees at Banana Café Beach Bar, you can rent chairs here (or plop down on the sand) and have a lot more space.

It’s up to you which vibe you want for the day! Read more about the Blue Lagoon and whether it’s worth it or not.

After lunch, make your way back to Fethiye for the rest of the day. You only need a half day here, which makes it perfect to tack on at the end.

What to Do in Fethiye (Half Day)

Old city etched into cliffside in Fethyie.
  • Old town: Walk the little streets and shops, with the smell of coffee in the air, and rugs swaying in the wind.
  • Lycian rock tombs / Ancient City of Telmessos: There’s a small fee to go in, but you can totally admire and photograph the city etched into the cliffside from outside, too.
  • Waterfront walk (Uğur Mumcu Parkı): Nice boardwalk along the marina with boats, views, and plenty of spots to sit.
  • Roman theater: We randomly caught a show here at night — keep an eye out because sometimes there are performances or music.

Where to Stay

I would recommend Ölüdeniz. It’s the prettiest beach town with the most to do. Fethiye is excellent for just a night or for a half-day visit.

Where I stayed:
El Camino Pub&Hostel (Fethiye)
Hotel Karbel Sun (Ölüdeniz)

👉 Best Accommodation Options:

Extra Time/Want More Options?

paragliders in Oludeniz.
  • Paragliding from Babadağ: If the weather is good, book it — this is one of the best places in the world to do it, and you land right on the beach in Ölüdeniz.
  • Kayaköy: An easy mini side trip to an abandoned Greek village in the hills; good if you want something cultural and not just beach.
  • Kıdrak Nature Park: A quieter, pretty stretch of coast close to Ölüdeniz, ideal if the Blue Lagoon was too crowded or too pricey for loungers.
  • Calis Beach (Fethiye): Head here for sunset if you’re staying the night in Fethiye — long beach, plenty of cafés, relaxed vibe.

Ölüdeniz vs Fethiye (Why It’s Confusing)

Boat in Oludeniz in blue water.

Here’s the thing nobody says clearly:

  • Ölüdeniz is a famous beach, lagoon, and paragliding spot.
  • Fethiye is the bigger town, marina, market streets, transport hub.
  • You usually have to go through Fethiye to get to Ölüdeniz — that’s why both names show up when you research.
  • Fethiye is on the water, but it’s not the “white beach + turquoise water” situation you’re seeing in photos.

So the smart plan (aka the one we just did): stay in Ölüdeniz, then dip into Fethiye for a half day or overnight. If you’re low on time, skip Fethiye altogether.

How to Get There

Dolmus Bus Stop.

Fly into Dalaman Airport. From there, you’ve got a couple of options:

  • BookAway: easiest for visitors — you can book your Dalaman → Fethiye transfer online before you even land. This is what I did, and it just makes life easier. Check buses here.
  • Airport shuttle / Havaş-style buses: go to Fethiye, and then you grab the dolmuş to Ölüdeniz.
  • Dolmuş Fethiye → Ölüdeniz: super easy, cheap, and reliable. Keep this in mind because taxi/Uber-style apps didn’t work for us here, so don’t panic if nothing is showing — just walk to the dolmuş stand. The ride is about 30 minutes from Fethiye → Ölüdeniz.

Where to Eat

Calamari, bread and beer in Oludeniz.
  • Buzz Beach Bar – sunset spot on the second floor with epic paragliding views, and really good food and drinks. We loved this spot!
  • Gözlemeci Sema & Ev yemekleri – excellent Mom-and-Pop Turkish spot with many vegetarian options.
  • Banana Café Beach Bar – chill end of the beach with food, good coffee, and nicer beach loungers.
  • Safran Turkish Delights & Baklava – cute spot to grab sweets to take back to the hotel. Incredible Turkish delights.
  • Express Supermarket – not a place to eat, but I found this place to be the only reasonable spot to get snacks, toiletries, and quick shop items! Many of the others were more expensive for some reason.
  • Paşa Kebap (Fethiye) – classic spot for big, delicious Turkish plates and kebabs. I have the most amazing yogurt pistachio dip thing!

I hope this helps you plan your Ölüdeniz itinerary!
