Table of Contents
1. Money On Your Mind

Let’s start by debunking one of the biggest myths: you don’t need to be rich to live abroad. I KNOW money is one of your biggest worries – right?
Trust me, I’ve lived and worked around the world for over a decade, and I certainly didn’t start with a fat bank account.
I worked three jobs for two years, saving up a measly $6k before I made my move. I sold everything, paid off my credit cards, and deferred my student loans.
When I finally landed abroad, I wasn’t living in luxury—I was living smart. Living abroad can actually be cheaper than living in the USA, and I’m living proof of that.
Your mindset is one of the biggest things you’re going to need to change. It sounds easy, but this is where I’d say most people FAIL!
2. How Much Do You Really Need?

There are two important points:
1. How much do you really need – to live. Like really, how much money per month, how much stuff, how high maintenance are you? How much do you REALLY need?
Let me be brief: You need less than you think. Period.
2. How much do you really need – to save up. What’s the magic number of what needs to be in your bank account before jetting off?
When I first moved abroad, I felt safe with $6k, moving to a relatively cheap country like Thailand. The key is planning and knowing your needs. You’ll need to calculate living cost, emergencies, and add in some buffers.
My ebook dives deeper into this and helps you find your magic number and help you get your “mind right” about what to expect and deciding what you need (and don’t).
3. Bagging a Job

Working remotely is a game-changer for sustaining your travel lifestyle. The good news? Finding remote work is easier than you might think.
Here’s a bit about my journey: I’ve worked 11 travel jobs, most of them remote. From being a virtual assistant to teaching English online, doing data entry, freelance writing, and now blogging, I’ve done it all.
There are even tons of jobs that aren’t remote that can get you abroad, but that’s a whole other thing!
Here are some tips to help you find remote work:
- Build Your Skills: Identify your skills and how they can apply to remote jobs.
- Update Your Resume: Highlight relevant skills and experience. Do some projects for free to build a portfolio.
- Use Job Boards: Websites like Remote.co, We Work Remotely, and FlexJobs are great resources. Even UpWork is good for gigs and getting yourself going. I started here!
- Network: Connect with professionals in your field. I landed a virtual assistant job through my network.
- Start Small: Freelance or part-time jobs are a good way to start. Go for a few one off gigs even to get yourself going.
TOP TIP:

Remember, you don’t need to find your dream job immediately. Look for “good enough” jobs to get started, and work your way up.
My ebook offers more detailed strategies and tips to help you land your first gig.

Visas can be a headache, but they don’t have to stop you.
There are more opportunities than you think. For example, working holiday visas or work permits for English teachers are great starting points.
Almost every single one of you reading this right now probably qualifies for one or both of those opportunities!
I got a work permit teaching English in Thailand, and did a working holiday in Australia—both were game-changers for me.
Those opportunities LITERALLY changed my life.
Each country has different requirements, but with some research and my guidance, you can find what is right for you.

5. Living on a Budget Abroad

Living abroad doesn’t have to be expensive. In fact, it can be cheaper than staying in the USA. Let’s compare some costs:
- Rent: In the USA, rent can easily be $1,500+ per month. In countries like Thailand or Vietnam, you can find a nice apartment for $300-$500 per month.
- Food: Eating out in the USA can be pricey. Abroad, you can enjoy delicious meals for much less. For example, fresh grilled octopus and wine in Greece for $15, or tacos in Mexico for $1 or $2.
- Healthcare: Medical expenses in the USA can be overwhelming. Many countries offer affordable healthcare. I fixed a chipped tooth for $30 in Portugal.
Living abroad not only reduces your living costs but also enhances your quality of life.
Imagine walking to a beach or exploring a local market right outside your door. The added value of these experiences is priceless.
